The Melbourne Boomers are pleased to announce the signing of American guard Brittany Smart for the 2015/16 WNBL season. A native of Ohio, Brittany currently plays with the Sandringham Sabres in the SEABL where she is enjoying an exceptional season.
Coach Guy Molloy is excited to be bringing Smart into the Melbourne Boomers family and is looking forward to her making an impact at the WNBL level.
“We were obviously devastated when Bec Cole suffered a major knee injury that will rule her out of the coming season, but we re-grouped and have found an impact player ready to go in Brittany,” said Molloy.
“Not only is Britt a true pro and a great competitor, but she is putting numbers on the board, leading the SEABL in scoring and shooting the three at a terrific 41 per cent clip.” “We eagerly look forward to Britt making her WNBL debut with the Melbourne Boomers,” added Molloy.
A graduate of Cedarville University in Ohio, where she is the all-time leading scorer in Yellow Jackets history and Ohio women’s college basketball with 3,236 points, Smart came to Australia after playing six successful seasons in Europe.
Through 12 games in the SEABL this season she is leading the league in scoring with 25.4ppg and is looking forward to the opportunity of playing with the Boomers in the WNBL.
“When I was contacted by the Melbourne Boomers coaching staff I felt very honoured. As a highly competitive athlete who wants to reach my potential, I believe Guy and the staff here are the perfect fit to push me to be my best,” said Smart.
“The Melbourne Boomers is a classy organisation with a family-orientated culture. I’m motivated to help the club reach their potential and goals. They have a loyal and passionate supporter base across Melbourne and I look forward to meeting them all,” added Smart.
