Southern Basketball Association (SBA) Board Update
The SBA Board would like to welcome all members and participants back for 2018. We hope you all had an enjoyable and safe Christmas and New Year. It’s timely to update you with what has occurred since the SBA AGM held on 14th December 2017.
At the AGM a new Board was elected by the members to provide good governance, strategy and direction for the SBA moving forward. The SBA Board is determined to deliver on its promise to govern for all, not the few. The following people were elected to the Board:
President: Mr Peter Ryan
Vice President: Mr Scott Harvey
Secretary: Mr David Hopkins
Treasurer: Mr Dean Cartwright
Assistant Treasurer: Jenny Mouat
Director: Paul Dear
Director: Corey Simpson
Prior to the Christmas break, the SBA Board accepted the resignation of the CEO, Mark Chivers. Again we thank Mark for his time, effort and contribution. The SBA Board agreed that it was important for the SBA to continue on ‘with business as usual’. So after consideration of potential options, based on availability, background and skills, the SBA Board appointed Craig Weir in January 2018 to the position of Interim CEO. Craig’s role is to manage the day to day Operations until a permanent CEO is appointed.
The SBA has engaged an external Executive Recruitment Firm to search for the most appropriate candidate to fill CEO position on a permanent basis.
At the first meeting Board on 22nd January 2018 Board members recognised that we are an Association of many members, so it was decided to go back to our grass roots and promote who we are, one Association and members of the Southern Basketball Association Inc.
To this end, the operation team will have their personal email addresses changed to @southernbasketball.com.au and to enhance communication within the operations, the following email addresses will be initiated:
Moving forward, you will be able to direct your emails according to area that your query resides.
The SBA Board is currently developing a comprehensive Strategic Plan with a 3-4 year horizon to ensure delivery of outcomes for SBA Members. We have started a consultative process with members and stakeholders and look forward to releasing this to the broader SBA community in the first week of March.
Finally, we look forward to seeing you around our stadiums over the coming weeks. Please enjoy your basketball and ensure while you may be focused on winning, it’s important that you demonstrate respect and have fun while participating or spectating in our great sport!!
On behalf of the SBA Board
Peter Ryan – President
