Over the weekend whilst most of us were kicking back relaxing after Friday night basketball, our U14.3 girls set off to Morwell. Morwell, located in the Latrobe Valley 2hours from the CBD, has a population of 13,000 hosts an annual tournament at the end of July.
Coach Peter O’Donnell had this to say about the weekend:
“We had a great tournament away at Morwell. After the prelim rounds, we finished 2nd in our section with 3 wins and 1 loss. We played against some much bigger country kids and worked very hard to get those wins. Our wins were all close and hard fought, we had a 1 point win against Traralgon, a 2 point win against Churchill and an 8 point win against Moe. Our last prelim game was against Sale’s U14-1’s team who had smashed all the other teams. They had an Australian Country player and two other Vic Country players. We fought hard but they were way too good for us and beat us 33 – 13. We met them again in the Grand Final later on Sunday, we held them for the first 10 minutes with the scores close but they again proved too strong as our girls tired and they ran away with it in the end, winning 45 – 14.”
“A very worthwhile experience for the girls, we finished Runners up and we played against some big kids and saw some different styles of basketball that we were not used to. Our girls had a fantastic time and gained a great deal from the experience.”
Well done girls!
